RIB-tur til RundeExperience Scandinavia's most species rich bird mountain from the sea!
RIB is a great way to access nature. In an open boat you get close to nature's elements including close proximity to the bird life at Runde. The RIB-ride starts in the port of Fosnavåg, and takes just a moment before you are at Runde. During the mating season there are half a million birds here, and about 100,000 of them are Atlantic puffin (Fratercula arctica).
The bird mountain is on the west side of the island, beyond Skarverua, which is on the north side, and which has one of the world's largest colonies of Common Shag (Phalacrocorax aristotelis). The birdlife at Runde can be experienced throughout the year, but high season is between April and August. The season for Atlantic puffin starts in early May and ends in late July.
Runde is the most species diverse birding location in Europe. Some sightings are rarer than others, but there are 224 observed species at Runde during the year.
Runde is a conservation area (step carefully). All movement in the Runde mountain requires careful movement because of fragile nature and conservation of the breeding seabirds. The exact boundaries for the conservation area at Runde are signposted with coloured rocks and erected poles in the terrain.
