Mining Museum
Overview
The Sulitjelma Mining Museum is located in the first industrial area that was established when the mine opened. Here you´ll find the old copper smelting work (1899) and the first power station (1893). The museum gives insight in the history of the mining in Sulitjelma.
The collection contains artifacts used in all the crafts the mining company consisted of. The mining museum has its own unique display of minerals from the mines in Sulitjelma. Other displays are about sports, mapping of the mines, the labor movement and transport history, among other things.
At the museum you can view several hundred pictures from the Sulitjelma mine history.
Several important happenings in Norwegian working life history took place here and the mining society started Northern Norway´s first union.
